BBQ Green Beans with Shallots

Green Beans gone BBQ! We love green beans that have been simply sautéed just as much as the next person, but we also love the flavor of bbq.

We really do love the flavor of bbq so much, especially mustard based bbq sauces. When we started eating a mostly plant based diet, one of our biggest fears was giving up some of the flavors we loved most. Then, we got real; we got creative. We quickly realized that a plant based diet is just as fulfilling as a diet with pulled pork bbq. We are now able to take our favorite dishes, adapt those to a plant based diet, and feel healthier because of it.

We’ve used the BBQ Mustard from Mustard and Co., but you can make your own by combing 1 tablespoon of your favorite BBQ sauce with 1/2 tablespoon mustard. You should check them out, though! Their ingredients, flavors, and taste are top notch. Plus, the afforadability for no BS mustard is a huge win in our book. The Red Hot Black Gomasio is from Urban Kitchen Apothecary. We absolutely loved using it on this dish; it gave the beens a wonderful earthy flavor. In a pinch, you can always use black sesame seeds.

These beans are great as quick side, perfect for sprucing up tomorrow’s lunch, and a crowd pleaser at get-togethers. All that while being vegan and gluten free!

Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium temperature.
  2. Add beans. Toss to coat, and sauté for approximately 3-4 minutes, or until browned. Turn to low, and cook until tender, approximately 2 minutes. Remove from pan, and season with salt.
  3. While the beans are cooking, make the sauce.
  4. In a small bowl, combine bbq mustard, lime juice, and water. Whisk to combine, and set aside.
  5. Top beans with BBQ mustard sauce, shallots, and gomasio.
