Growing up as a kid, I can’t tell you how many times my family made baked beans. I can’t remember the exact recipe; I’m almost certain it included mustard, green pepper, and brown sugar. We wanted to lighten them up, yet maintain the same great flavor we were used to in BBQ baked beans.
We used Smoky BBQ Mustard from our beloved Mustard and Co.. The tang of the mustard is balanced with molasses, and it’s got a lovely smoky flavor. Alternatively, you can mix equal parts of your favorite sweet bbq sauce with stone ground mustard (check labels for vegan and gf).
